Donor Privacy Policy
I. General
At the United Way of Mid Rural New York, your privacy is important. We value the trust our donors and other stakeholders place in the organization, and we adhere to the highest standards in gathering, using and safeguarding their information. We provide you with this Donor Privacy Policy that explains how we treat donor information that is provided to us, either online or offline. This Policy outlines the basis by which any personal data that we collect from you, or that you provide to us as a donor, will be processed by us.
This notice may be changed or updated from time to time by posting such amended or updated notice on our website. If we materially alter this Policy, we will notify you of such changes by posting a notice on our website. A subsequent donation by you will be deemed your agreement that your information may be used in accordance with the new policy. If you do not agree with the changes, then you should not make a donation with us and you should notify us that you do not want your information used in accordance with the changes. You may choose to “opt out” at any time.
We believe that you should have control over who receives the personal information you provide to us as a donor (such as your name, address, zip/postal code, e-mail address, telephone number). Therefore, we do not trade or sell your personal information with third parties. In addition, we do not share your personal information to third parties unless they are carrying out business activities, operations or functions on our behalf, and only if they comply fully with our donor privacy policy (see below). Further, we do not send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations.
The United Way of Mid Rural New York also educates our employees, interns and volunteers on the importance of protecting the privacy and security of confidential personal and organizational information.
II. Use of and Disclosure of Your Information
By submitting information to us you acknowledge, consent and agree that the Chenango United Way may access, read, preserve and disclose the personal information you provide to us as a donor, along with usage history, submitted messages or data and similar information regarding your use of the website in order to: (a) comply with any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; (b) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security, or technical issues; (c) respond to your requests for customer service; (d) protect the rights, property, or personal safety of the United Way of Mid Rural New York., its visitors, or the public; (e) where we sell any or all of our business assets; or (f) as otherwise set forth herein.
We do not provide donor information to third parties except under the following conditions:
a. Designations – if a portion of your donation is directed to another United Way, we provide your name, your contact information, the amount of your donation and your workplace to the organization receiving your donation. If you do not want this to occur, please indicate on your pledge form that you wish to remain anonymous. Although we other United Ways to set high privacy standards, we do not control their policies and we therefore cannot take responsibility for their use of donor contact information.
b. Public Recognition – There are times when we publicly recognize and thank donors, volunteers and other stakeholders for their generosity, such as in our Annual Report. If you prefer to remain anonymous, please indicate this when completing your pledge form.
c. Third Party Suppliers –A third party company may be contracted to provide data processing, pledge card scanning or mailing firms, or may conduct processing duties on our behalf. These companies will be required by United Way to enter into strict confidentiality agreements and agree not to keep information on file after the contract has been completed.
