Region

The United Way of Mid-Rural New York serves four counties in New York State: Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Madison Counties. These rural counties face unique challenges, and the United Way’s work is focused on improving the lives of the people in these communities, particularly the ALICE (Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed) population, by supporting programs and initiatives that promote health, education, and financial stability.

These counties are primarily rural, which often presents additional challenges in terms of access to services, transportation, healthcare, and educational opportunities. The United Way’s goal is to serve the needs of these communities by focusing on solutions that help sustain future resources and improve local quality of life.

Annual Campaign and Fund Distribution:
The United Way's Annual Campaign takes place every fall and serves as a critical fundraising effort. During this campaign, the organization raises funds to support a variety of programs that serve the ALICE population, along with other vulnerable groups in the region.

-Timing: The campaign runs during the fall, with funds collected throughout the season.

- Program Funding: Once the funds are raised, they are allocated in the beginning of the year to community programs and initiatives. These programs are designed to address the most urgent needs and to create long-term solutions to help those facing economic hardship.

Despite the rural nature of the counties served, the United Way of Mid-Rural New York operates with a dedicated staff of three. This small but committed team works year-round to meet the needs of the communities they serve, ensuring that resources are distributed effectively and that the organization's goals are being met. Their responsibilities include organizing the annual campaign, managing program funding, collaborating with local partners, and providing support to the community.

The United Way of Mid-Rural New York plays a vital role in serving the four counties of Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Madison, working to improve the lives of residents, especially those in the ALICE population. By raising funds through the annual fall campaign and allocating resources to local programs in early spring, the United Way continues to strengthen the community’s ability to thrive. With a small but dedicated staff, the organization is making a significant difference in helping families overcome financial struggles, gain access to essential services, and build a sustainable future.
